Reverend Monsignor Don Cieniewicz, M.Div.,
Pastor of the Cathedral Church

Monsignor Cieniewicz was born in Reading on August 28, 1957, to Edward V. and Helen T. (Pietruszynski) Cieniewicz. He studied for the Priesthood at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia, and was ordained by Bishop Thomas J. Welsh on May 14, 1983. He graduated from Holy Name High School and completed his studies for the priesthood at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia.

Father Don served as parochial vicar at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena in Allentown, and then as part of the faculty and administration of Central Catholic High School in Reading.

Father Don was pastor of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church in Hamburg, PA from 2000—2021. He also serves on the Mission and Ministry Committee for Penn State Health — St. Joseph Hospital (Reading), and Dayspring Homes in Shillington.

Pope Francis named Father Cieniewicz a Chaplain to His Holiness, which carries with it the title of Reverend Monsignor. Bishop Alfred Schlert made the announcement to Father Cieniewicz at the 9:30 AM Mass at the Cathedral on Sunday, January 9, 2023, the Solemnity of the Epiphany.
